The scoop

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

After a long headache of coming up with a workable schedule for a new treatment, I think we’ve finally figured something out. On the 15th of May (if all is well) I will start a new Phase I trial at Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit once again. I will spare you the details, but this drug looks promising. It is not really a chemotherapy, it is an antibody. In theory there should be no side effects (YAY!). I will receive the drug once every 3 weeks, and I’ll have to return to Detroit once a week for routine check-ups and blood tests. Currently I thought I’d get away to KS while I could. I’ll be staying with my parents for about a week. I am hoping to at least get some card playing and some turkey hunting in.

As for how I’m feeling, I’m doing alright. Some days are better than others. I still have nasty bouts of coughing and I get short of breath easy. However, it is better than it was earlier in the year. Thankfully some warmer weather has arrived.

I also would like to apologize to my “fans.” I didn’t really mean to take a step back from updating you all. At some point it occurred to me that an extremely large volume of people (including many I do not know personally) pay attention to what goes on in my life and I guess I let that freak me out a little bit. Trust me, I’m over that now and could use all of the support and prayers that I can get. Thank you all.

I will be enjoying some down time on the farm and will keep you informed about the trial.
